I was asked to share with you my stories with my boards purchased from Québec SUP, which I accepted with pleasure.
After introducing several members of my family and friends to SUP on the lake where we have a chalet, I came to realize that as the activity was super popular, I lacked the equipment to do interesting outings with my guests. So I started shopping. That’s when I found the Quebec SUP boards. I immediately liked the “shapes”, the designs.
I first chose the Koi 11ft. She had her water baptism on Lake Louise in Alberta.
Nice outing, nice stability with my little dog in the front. It was absolutely perfect. My son took my other board, but we had to negotiate that we go 50/50 because he also wanted the KOI.
The carrying bags are spacious. You don’t need to be an expert at “rolling” a board to store it once it’s been inflated and deflated. The supplied pump fits easily in the bag, as do the fins and paddle. There's even room left. The bag fits well on the back for transport, without the weight being excessive. I walked a few kilometers without any problem with my board on my back, my paddle, my lunch, my flotation jacket, etc.
The board performed very well on Lake Louise, no surprise since it is a flat lake with no waves. However, I was able to try it on a more tumultuous lake, Green Lake in Whistler, when the wind picked up and waves formed. It is true that I am comfortable with these conditions because, on our lake at the chalet, I often have these kinds of conditions. Although my board at the chalet is stiff and shorter. The Koi 11ft has a fairly large flotation surface, and also seemed more difficult to handle in high winds. I was still surprised by its stability and the way it reacted to deteriorating conditions. I expected to have to put more effort into reaching the shore but it turned out very well. Yes, I had to paddle harder than without wind, obviously. (If you are a beginner, however, I advise you to learn to paddle well and pay attention to the weather conditions to avoid finding yourself in an unfortunate position.)
Also in Whistler, there was a super nice, calm, shallow creek, Alta Creek, which was a lot of fun to navigate for me and my SUP partner (my dog).
There are several other beautiful spots to discover in the West, there are also excursions possible.
In short, during the trip to the West, we liked the board so much that I decided to buy a second one, the 11-foot Naïa. The design is perfect, the surface is perfect, everything is to my taste. So I can now leave my son with the KOI and the Naïa is for me 😉.
Lately, I also fell in love with the Peyto 11 feet. It will therefore be added to my collection of inflatable SUPs soon. Its design may be easier in rougher water for the beginners I bring with me.
